Law enforcement guidelines
This page explains how OpenPixel Studio responds to requests from law-enforcement and government authorities.
Our approach
We are a civic open-data project. We hold very little personal data, and we narrow what we keep on purpose. We review every request for legal validity and disclose only what an applicable, properly served legal process requires. We will object to requests that are overbroad, vague, or unlawful.
What data exists
- Account records: name, address, email, account creation time, and contribution history.
- Submission audit records: who submitted a place, when, and the captured coordinates.
- Verification photos: not retained. They are deleted as soon as a submission is reviewed, so historic photos generally cannot be produced.
- We do not sell data, and the place data itself is already public and open.
Making a request
Valid legal requests should be made in writing on official letterhead and sent to our contact channel, clearly identifying the requesting authority, the legal basis, the specific account or records sought, and the relevant time period. We may, where lawful and appropriate, notify affected users before disclosing their information.
Emergencies
In cases involving an imminent risk of serious harm, we will review emergency requests as quickly as we reasonably can. Please mark the request as urgent and describe the emergency.
This page is informational and is not legal advice. Specific obligations depend on the applicable jurisdiction and the facts of each request.
